Comparison
tikio vs Built-in ESP timers
Many email platforms now ship a countdown block in their editor: GetResponse, ActiveCampaign, MailerLite, Omnisend, Kit, Moosend, and the Stripo and Unlayer editors. Klaviyo, Mailchimp and HubSpot still do not. If you only need one fixed date, the built-in block is fine — use it. This page is about everything else.
| Feature | tikio | Built-in ESP timers |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed date for everyone | Yes | Yes — this is what every built-in block does |
| Personal evergreen per subscriber | Yes — starts at each subscriber’s first open, in campaigns and automations | Only GetResponse (from open); the others count to one fixed date |
| Recurring on local time, with DST | Daily, weekday or weekly reset at a local time, following daylight saving | Not documented by any of them |
| Count-up | Yes, set up through the REST API | Not documented by any of them |
| Edit after sending | Yes — change the deadline any time; emails already sent pick it up within minutes | Not documented; treat the block as fixed once the email is sent |
| At-zero action and smart link | Show zeros, hide the timer or swap in an image; a smart link sends clicks elsewhere after zero — also in sent emails | Some show an expiry image or message; no smart link |
| Same timer on your website | The same link embeds on your site as an iframe, in sync with the email | Kit also has it on its own forms and landing pages; others email only |
| Your own fonts | Upload your own fonts or use Google Fonts, at no extra cost | Varies: Omnisend allows custom fonts; Unlayer offers a fixed list of 10 |
| Works in any ESP | Yes — one design for every platform you send from | Only inside that platform’s editor |
| Watermark | None | None |
GetResponse
The built-in timer has two modes: Fixed date, counting to one date and time in a time zone you choose, and Evergreen, which “starts counting down from the moment they open the message”. You pick the format, font, size and colors. Use tikio when you need a timer that resets every day or week on local time, a deadline you can change after sending, a smart link that changes after zero, or the same countdown on your website.
ActiveCampaign
The Timer block in the Email Designer counts to one end date and time, in a time zone you set — ActiveCampaign notes it “will not necessarily reflect the contact’s local time”. You can set colors, font and an expired-timer image. For a deadline per contact in automations, use tikio’s personal timer with the %SUBSCRIBERID% tag.
MailerLite
The Countdown block “counts down to a specific time/date set by you”, calculated in your account’s time zone, and plays on a 90-second loop. There is no per-subscriber mode — MailerLite’s own integrations for per-subscriber deadlines point to third-party tools. tikio covers that case in automations and adds recurring timers and editing after send.
Omnisend
Omnisend’s timer, added in September 2026 on the Standard and Pro plans, “uses one fixed end date and time for all recipients … It does not create a separate countdown for each contact.” It supports custom fonts and a fallback image after expiry. For abandoned-cart and browse-abandonment flows where every contact enters at a different time, use a personal timer.
Kit
Kit’s countdown works in broadcasts, sequences, forms and landing pages, counting to a fixed end date in your account’s time zone, with three styles and a short expiry message. For sequences where each subscriber should get their own window, a personal tikio timer is the better fit.
Moosend
The Timer item sets an expiration date and font, and “expires at the same time for all users”, based on your time zone. It is available in full-width layouts.
Stripo
Stripo’s Timer block counts to a fixed end time in a chosen time zone, as a 60-second GIF with a fallback image after expiry. Opens are metered — the free plan includes 1,000 a month, then paid packs — and when they run out the timer becomes a blank 1-pixel image. Stripo is an editor, so merge tags pass through to whatever ESP sends the email.
Unlayer
Unlayer’s Timer tool is a paid feature: a GIF counting to an end time in an IANA time zone, with a fixed list of ten fonts. Like Stripo, Unlayer is an editor embedded in other products, so what you can do per recipient depends on the platform that sends it.
Klaviyo, Mailchimp and HubSpot
None of the three has a built-in email countdown block; Klaviyo’s and Mailchimp’s own help content points to third-party timer tools. See our setup guides for each.
The honest verdict
If you only need one fixed date for a broadcast, the built-in block is fine — it is already in your editor and costs nothing extra. Everything else is where tikio fits: a personal deadline per subscriber in automations, timers that reset on local time, fixing a deadline in emails already sent, a different image and link after zero, your own fonts, and the same countdown on your website.
